With their newly recorded, 12 song, debut album “Never Too Late” in hand, rock band Darker Still is out hitting stages and making fans. With a fat sound, "Never Too Late" is an album that delivers to all audiences. Rich

vocals, deep lyrical content, thundering drums and driving rhythms make it well worthwhile. Check out my interview with Canada’s fast rising rock band.

What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?

Modern rock. We take a lot of influence for our music from 70's rock bands and give it a modern feel. Heavy guitars and powerful vocals all rounded out by groovy bass lines and kickass drumming.

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?

This ones kinda funny. We had been playing together for a while and had a show coming up but no name. Every band member wrote down anything we could think of and Pat came up with the name Darker Still.

Seeing that we only had a day before submission we all agreed on this one. All of us loved the dark and mysterious sound of it and now its stuck.

What Are or Have been Your Musical Influences?

We have a wide range of influences from Cream and Black Sabbath for Patrick the guitar player. Quinn loves Chris Squire from Yes and John Paul Jones From Zeppelin. Tony grew up listening to bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Linkin Park, and System of a Down.

What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?

We are currently in the early stages of writing new material for another album. We loved all of the songs we wrote for "Never Too Late" and are excited to see what we can come up with. We look forward to stretching our musical muscles and can't wait to see the results. No future collaborations in the works but we are more than willing to work with others in the industry.

What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?

We're heading straight to the top! We want to get our music out to as many as we can reach. We believe that we have something to offer for everybody. We look forward to hearing ourselves on the radio. Playing shows with our idols is a big dream of ours as well.

What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live?

I Had it all

What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus far?

Keeping a steady drummer has been the most trying challenge for the band. Patrick, Quinn and Tony have been staples from the beginning but we have gone through 8 drummers in our 5 years together. We are excited to be playing with Mike Tsiourlis who has been an amazing addition to the band.

What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?

Most songs begin with Quinn or Patrick writing a guitar riff of progression with maybe a line or two to start. Then the whole band will take that and try to write full verses and choruses. The song "I Had it all" went through almost 7 or 8 choruses before we decided on one in the recording process. Lyrics are written by each of us, sometimes together and sometimes by ourselves.

How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?

We have met a ton of great contacts through our Reverbnation page. We have gotten some of our shows through people listening to our songs on Reverbnation and being contacted or submitting our music through Reverbnation Opportunities. It has been invaluable to us as a social media outlet. We use Facebook and twitter as a way to promote upcoming shows, events and merch.

What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?

Quinn is listening to Genesis, Joni Mitchell and Audience Patrick likes Black Sabbath and Melissa Etheridge Tony is currently listening to the new Disturbed album and Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age

Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?

Don't give up. Go to a real studio and hire a producer who genuinely likes your music. Write as much as possible as often as possible.

What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?

More rock music on the radio and more opportunities for up and coming bands.

How Do You Feel About Originality?

Originality is very important. We write all of our music and are proud of everything we have recorded. We look forward to the day other people are playing our music and having it inspire them like our idols did for us.
